Physical Education - Level 1

• Physical Activity via a range of experiences including squash, tennis, weight training, flag football, basketball, badminton, mountain biking, high ropes, gymnastics
• This course has a large practical component
• Students may not take PHE1, PHE2 or PHE3 in conjunction with ADP1, ADP2 or ADP3
1.7 - Safety Management Camp - Boys go mountain biking and rafting in Rotorua. Before, during and after camp they look at aspects of safety and reflect on what went well and what could be improved upon.
1.1 - Practical activities - students take part in a wide range of physical activities and sports including dodgeball, squash, tennis, cricket, turbo touch, badminton. They reflect on aspects that influence their participation.
1.2 - Anatomy, Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology - students refresh their knowledge from Year 10 and then apply this knowledge to a chosen sporting skill.
1.2 - Assignment - complete this online assignment during the senior assessment week.
1.5 - Interpersonal skills - The class are split into even teams and run themselves as a sporting club whilst taking part and training for Flag American Football. They reflect on their interpersonal skills and how these have impacted on the team both positively and negatively.
1.5 - Complete the Flag Football Tournament and complete write-ups/reflections
1.3 - Badminton - students take part in a teaching and learning programme based around Badminton. They gain expert coaching and train for several weeks. They are assessed against a set of criteria before being given a final grade.
1.1 - Complete Final assessment and given final grade.
Additional learning in readiness for Level 2 Physical Education next year.

This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
Course endorsement provides recognition for a student who has performed exceptionally well in an individual course.
Students will gain an endorsement for a course if, in a single school year, they achieve:
14 or more credits at Merit or Excellence, and
at least 3 of these credits from externally assessed standards and 3 credits from internally assessed standards.
