Course Description

•Interpersonal skills through physical activity & adventure education
•Performance of physical skills.

•Physical Activity via a range of experiences including squash, tennis, weight training, flag football, basketball, badminton, mountain biking, gymnastics




•This course has a large practical component
•Students may not take PHE1 conjunction with ADP1.


Course Overview

Term 1
1.7 - Safety Management Camp - Students go mountain biking and white water rafting in Rotorua. Before, during and after the day trip students will analyse safety aspects and reflect on what went well and what could be improved upon.

1.1 - Practical activities - Students take part in a wide range of physical activities and sports including dodgeball, squash, tennis, cricket, turbo touch, badminton. Students keep a journal and discuss the aspects that influence their participation.

1.2 - Anatomy, Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology - Students refresh their knowledge from Year 10, extend learning and then apply this knowledge to a chosen sporting skill.

Term 2
1.2 - Assignment - complete this online assignment during the senior assessment week.

1.5 - Interpersonal skills/Sport Education - The class are split into even teams and run themselves as a sporting club whilst taking part and training for Flag American Football. They reflect on their interpersonal skills and how these have impacted on the team both positively and negatively.

Term 3
1.5 - Complete the Flag Football Tournament and complete write-ups/reflections

1.3 - Badminton - students take part in a teaching and learning programme based around Badminton. They gain expert coaching and train for several weeks. They are assessed against a set of criteria before being given a final grade.

Term 4
1.1 - Complete Final assessment and given final grade.

Additional learning in readiness for Level 2 Physical Education next year.

Credit Information

This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
Course endorsement provides recognition for a student who has performed exceptionally well in an individual course.
Students will gain an endorsement for a course if, in a single school year, they achieve:
14 or more credits at Merit or Excellence, and
at least 3 of these credits from externally assessed standards and 3 credits from internally assessed standards.
