Course Description

This course is designed for students who intend to move into the trades or an apprenticeship. It extends the literacy skills from years 9 and 10 and offers a broad mix of standards. Students enrolled in this course will learn: how to produce a CV, how to fill in a form, how to fill in incident reports, how to make financial decisions for themselves and others, how to create a realistic budget, and their basic employment rights and responsibilities.
Course Overview
Term 1
By the end of the term, students will have mostly completed the portfolio requirements for the three major literacy standards: Write to communicate ideas for a purpose and audience, Read texts with understanding, and Actively participate in spoken interactions.
Term 2
By the end of Term 2, students will be able to create a realistic budget and how to make informed financial decisions for themselves and others.
Term 3
By the end of Term 3, students will be able to fill in a form, fill in an incident report, and produce a CV.
Term 4
By the end of Term 4, students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of basic employment rights and responsibilities.
