PrerequisitesIf you did not take the course in Year 11, or achieved fewer than 40% in that course, you will need HOD approval
This course builds upon the foundation laid in Y11 and aims to enhance your design capabilities. With guidance, this course encourages students to build on the ability to work independently, developing an understanding of working to project timelines and workflow. Students explore practices specific to product design and spatial design through two projects, customised to reflect their personal interests. Students are challenged to examine in detail solutions to these design briefs. The work done in these projects contributes to internally assessed standards as well as an external portfolio. Assessments provoke students to develop a deeper understanding of design drawing and presentation skills, freehand sketching, graphics practice, CAD drawings in 3D modelling and 2D working drawings, along with a thorough depth of design thinking.
Term 1
The first few weeks start by building on your design drawing skills and design thinking. This leads to the first project developing the design of a product. Focusing on coming up with a creative and innovative solution to an everyday product that reflects your personal interests. This project will teach you how to present your design ideas clearly and logically, making them visually appealing and bringing your concepts to life.
Term 2
This term is all about spatial design. Developing your skills and knowledge around creating a livable space that works logically and enhances the living experience. Focusing on the understanding of space layout (reflected in site and floor plans), architectural features and construction methods. This project builds on the student’s understanding of presenting their design ideas in a clear and logical manner that is visually appealing.
Term 3
This term you will take your final design from your spatial project and using Computer Aided Design (CAD), you'll bring it to life on software utilized by architects called "Archicad." The workflow will involve creating a 3D model and subsequently generating a set of 2D working drawings, comprising floor plans, site plans, elevations, intricate sectional views and construction details.
Term 4
This term you use to complete will finish your Spacial project (CAD)
