The study of music involves learning to perform, compose and understand music within a broad range of styles.
Solo performances // Composition // Instrumentation // Aural skills // Music analysis // Musical knowledge
Senior students are expected to be taking regular instrumental or vocal tuition – this can be at school OR privately.
Students will design a course of 18-20 credits in consultation with their teacher.

Term 1
An example might look like:
-Weekly external exam preparation: aural and/ or score reading
-Solo Performance Preparation
-Investigate an aspect of New Zealand Music, an inquiry approach to analysis and social and historical contexts.
Term 2
-Weekly external exam preparation: aural and/ or score reading
-Solo Performance Preparation: First Solo Performance Assessment
-Composition: students use recording and notation software to compose two original pieces
Term 3
-Weekly external exam preparation: aural and/ or score reading
-Solo Performance Preparation: Second Solo Performance Assessment
-Composition: students use recording and notation software to compose two original pieces
Term 4
External exam preparation: aural and/ or score reading

PrerequisitesIf you did not take the course at Level 1, or achieved fewer than 14 credits in that course, you will need HOD approval
