This course is aimed at students who intend to start a trade or an apprenticeship, study at polytech, or who have yet to decide what they intend to do but want to further their understanding of literacy. This course will encourage students to better understand New Zealand by exploring topics such as: future pathways, taxation, the New Zealand Police, lineage, filling out forms, and motor vehicle laws.
Term 1
Based on the skills they posses, students will think about possible careers and research job and training opportunities. Students will also look into the significance of their family and cultural history in order to better understand themselves.
Term 2
Students will begin to recognize the value of accuracy and detail as they practice filling in complex forms, preparing them for the wide world. Students will also become familiar with the concept of taxation and how it relates to them.
Term 3
Students will gain an understanding of how law works in New Zealand by learning about the function of our police force, as well as motor vehicle laws.
Term 4
Term four is an opportunity for students to ensure they have understood the year's work and that they are prepared for the following year, whether returning or entering the workforce. Literacy will continue to be developed through reading, writing and speaking.
If you did not take a pathway course at Level 1, or achieved fewer than 14 credits in that course, you will need HOD approval.
