Course Description

English is about communicating effectively to others and enriching our lives.

This is a compulsory course at Year 10.

Students will be placed in appropriate classes according to their reading and writing curriculum levels.


Course Overview

Term 1
Diagnostic Writing Task: Provides a clear benchmark for the teacher to understand how to best help you grow as a writer.

Diagnostic Reading (E-asttle): Provides a clear benchmark for the teacher to understand how to best help you grow as a reader.

Short Text Unit: you will explore different styles of texts with a focus on character development, themes, and setting.

Writing Exploration: you will explore various genres of writing, with a focus on enjoying the process.

Term 2
Extended Text Unit: you will read and analyse a novel, with a focus on character development, themes and setting.

Speech/Presentation: you will develop a presentation to share with your class, with a focus on teaching a skill.

Writing Exploration: you will explore various genres of writing, with a focus on enjoying the process.

Term 3
Visual Language Unit: you will explore the different aspects of filmmaking and why they are used, before sharing with us your thoughts on what a particular scene means to you.

Writing Exploration: you will explore various genres of writing, with a focus on enjoying the process.

Term 4
Examination preparation: your teacher will guide you in preparing for an examination that reflects the progress you have made since the start of the year.
