NOTE - From 2023, the new NZQA standards will be taught. If you are to take level 1 agricultural and horticultural science in 2023 - you should take this option in 2021.
A practical introduction to horticultural, agricultural and agribusiness in New Zealand.
Day trips to farms, orchards, packhouses and agribusinesses.
In this course, you will grow and sell your own produce.

Areas taught include:
- Management of livestock and pastoral species.
- Plant management using the new Tauranga Boys' College Kiwifruit block.
- Propagation using the new greenhouse with artificial heating and lighting.

The course is taught by Dr Davie, who has a PhD in Kiwifruit postharvest handling and storage from Massey University. He has worked 16 years in the UK with a Softfruit Marketing company as both a Technologist and General Manager and worked as a Quality Manager at an NZ Kiwifruit Packhouse prior to Teaching at TBC in 2019.

Overview of Horticulture and Agriculture in New Zealand with potential out of school field visits to see commerical orchard or farm. Selling your own product that you have grown.
Day trip to Deer farm, Beef and lamb farm & Blueberry grower.
Propagation by seeds, cuttings and tissue culture. Introduction to apiculture (bees). Learn how science is applied to growing plants and animals.
- Open Entry.
- A proven record of self-management is required given safety issues and the need to work outside independently.
