11 Music

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Aaron Wright.

In year 11 Music students will work towards presenting a portfolio of live performance and recorded original compositions. Students will build core skills and knowledge in order to achieve this, these include listening, analysis and understanding music theory. We also investigate a range of music from different social and historical contexts in order to better understand creative influences and processes.




Course Overview

Term 1
The course is approached in a holistic fashion:
-Weekly practical knowledge and skills development- Listening and analysis activities
-Weekly Group Performance preparation- Students work in small groups to prepare and present.
-In term one we focus on our first topic for the Understanding Music in Contexts Assessment, we complete two assessments for this which covers analysis using the elements of music and investigating the social and historical contexts particular works and composers.

Term 2
-Weekly practical knowledge and skills development- Listening and analysis activities
-Weekly Performance practise and lessons.
-In term one we focus on our first topic for the Understanding Music in Contexts Assessment, we complete two assessments for this which covers analysis using the elements of music and investigating the social and historical contexts particular works and composers.

Term 3
-Performance practise and lessons in preparation for submission of our final Performance Portfolio
-Creating original pieces of music for submission in our final Composition Portfolio

Term 4
-Performance practise and lessons in preparation for submission of our final Performance Portfolio
-Creating original pieces of music for submission in our final Composition Portfolio

Open Entry - 10 Music preferred.
