Gateway 3
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Tom Collin.
Gateway is for the lads that make the working world work. The future builders, airport ground crew, plumbers, engineers, fabricators, hospitality staff, tourism operators, farmers and pretty much any thing else in between. This is a course for those who want to be apprentices in any industry from baking and butchery to building and plumbing. The main aim is to provide students with work experience that is relevant to a career pathway that they want to follow. Alongside that we support students to get relevant tickets including fork lift licences, work place health and safety tickets and other entry level qualifications that they will need in the work place.
Listed below are some of the programs or employers that we hope to work with in 2025:
- JNP Aviation - Learn about how to become ground crew for Air NZ. Based at Tauranga Airport this 20 credit qualification sets you up perfectly for work in ground crew operations and is also extremely helpful for those looking to become licensed aircraft mechanics, flight crew or pilots. These are industry level qualifications.
- MITO - The Motor Industry Training Organisation Level 3 Gateway qualification offers standards that will reduce the amount of paper work that you have to do in order to complete your apprenticeship. The Level 3 program is only available to those that have completed Level 2 first but it is possible to do both in one year. These are industry level qualifications.
- Tourism Operations with Service IQ. This program places students at Waimarino Waterpark where they will achieve entry level tourism qualifications.
- Building/construction with Safety N' Action. Achieve entry level tickets in the building industry including safety at heights and working in confined spaces. These are industry level qualifications.
- Truck driving and handling dangerous goods with Safety N' Action. Unfortunately age level restrictions make it difficult for us to offer heavy vehicle licenses but we have worked with Safety N' Action to put together a program which includes industry level qualifications around handling dangerous goods and loading heavy vehicles.
- Hospitality and service industry qualifications. We can offer industry level courses in bar tending, barista skills and customer service for those who want to work in hospitality.
- Sports coaching/refereeing with The Learning Place. For those who are already coaching junior sports teams or refereeing these are excellent programs to help you develop your skills set.
- Choose your own adventure. Got another career that you want to follow? Come and see the Pathways team and we can almost definitely work something out.
All of the programs above are subject to availability but provided we can work together to find relevant work experience we can always make something happen.
