Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Lawrence
This course is centred around a single complex practical. Students will design using CAD (Computer Aided Design) developing full orthographic engineering drawings. Students will put their design through our CAM system (Computer Aided Manufacture) and then learn to programme and set CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machines to produce their product.
This course undertaken in an Engineering Workshop.
Course Overview
Term 1
Introduction to CNC language and 'G' Code programming.
Concept designs for practical.
Term 2
Introduction to 'Aspire' CAM system
Designs refined and tool-paths tested.
Term 3
Working on CNC router, using Mach3 control system.
Production of designed item.
Assessment of practical component.
Prerequisites
If you did not take a pathway course at Level 2, or achieved fewer than 14 credits in that course, you will need HOD approval

Total Credits Available: 18 credits.
