PrerequisitesMust have taken Year 10 Māori Performing Arts.
This course provides an all round experience in the world of māori performing arts and. Students will demonstrate knowledge in the art of performing haka, moteatea, mau rākau (Māori weaponry), and creating traditional māori kākahu (performance wear).
Term 1
Term 1 focuses on practical performance such has mōteatea and haka, how to perform these correctly, and apply them into the real world.
Term 2
Term 2 focuses on māori weaponary, how to perform wero (challenge), war movements, and footwork correctly and traditionally, and apply them into the real world.
Term 3
Term 3 focuses on traditional māori kākahu, how to sew, stitch, and create their own traditional piece of clothing.
Term 4
Term 4 focuses on performance, using all the skills learnt over the year and demonstrating them through a performance.
