Māori Performing Arts 2
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Paora Teka.
This course is intended for students who would like to extend their understanding and demonstrate knowledge in the art of performing haka, mau rākau (Māori weaponry), and traditional māori kākahu. There is also an opportunity to represent our kura in the cultural competition that is the Super 8 Kapa Haka contest.
Course Overview
Term 1
Term 1 is focused on learning waiata specific to Tauranga Moana that can be used for both performance and everyday kaupapa
Term 2
Term 2 is focused on mau rakau - how to perform movements correctly and eventually spar and fight with rakau at a high level
Term 3
Term 3 is focused on kākahu māori - creating traditional kākahu for a in house exhibition
Prerequisites
Must have completed 11MPA
