Course Description

The study of business is about how individuals and groups of people organise, plan, and act to create and develop goods and services to satisfy customers.
The knowledge and skills gained in Business Studies, and exposure to enterprise culture, can help shape “creative, energetic, and enterprising” young people who will contribute to New Zealand’s economic future.
In Business Studies, students develop their understanding of business theory and practices in a range of relevant contexts, through experiential approaches to learning. (running your own business).
A large component of this course involves running a business activity, in a small group of 3-4 students
Course Overview
Term 1
Introduction
Students will be introduced to the concepts of Business Studies
Students will learn and conduct primary and secondary market research
Term 2
Running a Business
Students will have the opportunity to start and run their own business and make real profits.
Term 3
Running a Business (continued)
Motivation Theory
Students will look into how local business use motivation theories to improve productivity and the work-place environment
Critical Problem
Students will look into how businesses deal with potential problems and some solutions to these.
Term 4
Critical Problem
Revision for and preparation for External examination
Prerequisites
Must have Te Punga Wehi or Wana certificate.

Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
Course endorsement provides recognition for a student who has performed exceptionally well in an individual course.
Students will gain an endorsement for a course if, in a single school year, they achieve:
* 14 or more credits at Merit or Excellence, and
* at least 3 of these credits from externally assessed standards and 3 credits from internally assessed standards.
