11 Bone Carving

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Richard Apanui.

A course for students keen to study Bone Carving at a senior level. There will be an opportunity to further skills in drawing, design, tikanga whakairo and indigenous art forms.

Course Overview

Term 1
Term 1 has a focus on Health and safety with bone preparation for the year. Learning about kōwhaiwhai patterns, some tukutuku and whakarei leading into our 1st assessment - Demonstrate knowledge of whakairo.
We also make a taonga of your choice and skill level.

Term 2
Term 2 is where we learn about and construct 3 taonga pūoro for our 2nd assessment - Construct simple taonga pūoro.

Term 3
Term 3's focus is our last assessement around learning more about some ancient forms and their functionality within Māori society and the pūrākau associated with these forms - Describe customary whakairo and their function.
Taonga of choice.

Term 4
Term 4 is finishing off any mahi or taonga that we have left to complete.
Taonga of choice.

Open Entry - 10CAB preferred
