Mathematics with Calculus 2

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Damien Galvan.

In a range of meaningful contexts, students will be engaged in thinking mathematically.

Students will solve problems and model situations that require them to apply algebraic, graphical, geometric and calculus techniques.

Students that choose this course can also take MAS2 (Statistics) as an option.

Course Overview

Term 1
The term starts with a review of Algebra skills as this is the foundation of all topics in the course. Then classes will focus on expanding various concepts and develop confidence in solving problems using algebraic techniques.

The last part of the term will be focussed on using a 'System of Equations' to solve problems.

Term 2
There is a strong focus on internal assessments this term. The first is 'Graphs' which involves applying graphical methods in solving problems.

The second half of the term classes will be learning about arithmetic and geometric patterns. Students will learn to apply 'Sequences and Series' in solving problems.

Term 3
We start the term with 'Co-ordinate Geometry' where students substitute into a relevant formula and apply various methods in solving problems.

Then the focus will be on 'Calculus'. Students will be introduced to differentiation and integration (anti-differentiation).

Term 4
Review and prepare for the external examinations Algebra and Calculus.

Prerequisites

A 'C' grade or better in IGCSE or in Te Punga for Mathematics. You will need to seek HOD approval if you have not met the prerequisite.
