Course Description

Environmental Science

This course is designed to be informative, it will challenge the students' current views and develop critical thinking skills to solve problems by looking at real-world issues and data. Students will develop research skills to identify the impact of human influence on a global scale. eg climate change, sea level rise, ocean acidification.

This course is designed to develop students' understanding of the natural environment around them. Students will investigate activities that affect our marine, freshwater, and forest environments and make conclusions about the human impact on these local environments.

Students will be encouraged to be creative and demonstrate their understanding in various ways. eg portfolio, digital media, posters, podcast


Course Overview

Term 1
Students will:
Identify how scientists work together to share evidence and learn from each other.
Recognise the relationship between the atmosphere, biosphere, geosphere, and hydrosphere.
Research global issues like climate change, sea level rise, and ocean acidification.
Ask questions, find evidence, and examine knowledge.
Develop an understanding of a global issue based on research.
Demonstrate understanding in various ways. eg portfolio, digital media, posters, podcasts.

Term 2
Students will:
Examine local environments eg marine, freshwater, and forests.
Identify factors of the local environment that keep it balanced and healthy.
Identify factors that impact the local environment positively or negatively.
Develop an understanding of a local environmental issue based on research.
Recognise that awareness and education are important when communicating issues.
Demonstrate understanding in various ways. eg portfolio, digital media, posters, podcasts.
