Teacher in Charge: David Jackson.
PrerequisitesIf you did not take a pathway course at Level 1, or achieved fewer than 14 credits in that course, you will need HOD approval.
Level 2 Electronics offers an advanced exploration of electronics theory, delving deeper into fundamental concepts. A primary focus is an in-depth examination of atomic structure and its role in the properties of conductors, insulators, and semiconductors. Additionally, the course entails a detailed analysis of electronic components, emphasizing their specifications and suitability for circuit design. Topics such as heat dissipation and component protection, including electrostatic considerations, are thoroughly addressed.
Furthermore, the course encompasses the study of solving complex circuits, applying Kirchhoff's laws to determine current, voltage, and power calculations. This analytical approach equips students with the skills to tackle intricate electronic systems with confidence.
Complementing the theoretical aspects are practical components aimed at hands-on learning experiences. Students will have the opportunity to design and fabricate their own printed circuit boards, as well as gain proficiency in soldering through the assembly of various circuits and projects. Notably, a key practical endeavor involves constructing a power supply, which will serve as a foundational resource for powering future projects in the course.
