Level 2 Applied Mathematics
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Damien Galvan.
Level 2 Applied Mathematics is a course that has been designed so learning can be achieved by using contexts such as Primary Industries and sports. There are fewer standards which allows more time for learning. All credits achieved can go towards NCEA Numeracy. All students require a positive attitude and a willingness to succeed through learning.
Course Overview
Term 1
This term students will learn about the logistics of moving freight, forestry management and farm management. Students will be able to understand the financial and time constraints planners have. The second half of the term will focus on trigonometric reasoning and how it is used to solve problems in fishery management and sport.
Term 2
This term has a focus on statistics. Students will use data from the Athlete Development Program to design statistical models to help influence athlete performance. Students without Numeracy will get the opportunity to do the Numeracy Co-requisite.
Term 3
The main focus will be on co-ordinate geometry. This will link learning from Term 1 in a sporting context. Students without Numeracy will get the opportunity to do the Numeracy Co-requisite.
Term 4
Completion of all assessments
Prerequisites
Completion of IGCSE Mathematics or Te Punga Mathematics.
Pathway
Standards in both of the Mathematics 3 courses are University Entrance approved.
