Course Description

Teacher in Charge:

This course offers intermediate stage Māori language oral and written, for students who have already studied and completed Māori at Level 2. It is the study of language in greater depth with an emphasis on oral and written Māori.

Summative / Formative Assessments that students will undertake during the year:
•Listening test
•Oral test
•Creative writing test
•Mid-year exam
•End-year exam (prep for external exams – Pānui)
•NZQA external exam for Pānui and Tuhituhi

Course Overview

Term 1
A focus on strengthening whakarongo (listening) skills in te reo.

Term 2
A focus on strengthening kōrero (spoken) skills in te reo.

Term 3
A focus on developing pānui and tuhituhi (reading and writing) skills in te reo.

Term 4
External examinations

Prerequisites

If you did not take the course at Level 2, or achieved fewer than 14 credits in that course, you will need HOD approval

Credit Information

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.

This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
Course endorsement provides recognition for a student who has performed exceptionally well in an individual course.
Students will gain an endorsement for a course if, in a single school year, they achieve:
* 14 or more credits at Merit or Excellence, and
* at least 3 of these credits from externally assessed standards and 3 credits from internally assessed standards.
