Course Description

Psychology is a subject focussed on explaining behaviour. The main focus of Psychology Level Two is addiction issues. Topic studied will include: Examine the different psychological approaches used to explain addiction, and examine how psychological debate has changed on addiction over time. This course will introduce some key psychology concepts. It will also involve designing and carrying out an experiment. Social psychology and the Psychology of Sport will also be covered.

Course Overview

Term 1
Approaches used to explain behaviour: Behaviourism, Psychoanalysis, and Biology
How different Psychological approaches seek to explain addiction and other issues.
Is addiction a choice or are you more likely to become addicted to something because your parents were?
How does psychology treat people with addiction?
Internal on approaches to explain behaviour.

Term 2
Addiction: what causes addiction?
Is substance abuse generational?
What is the Rat park experiment?
Social media and its impacts
Internal on a key debate in Psychology.

Term 3
Famous experiments - The Milgram Experiment, Little Albert, The Bobo Doll experiment
Experiment internal.
Sport Psychology and Criminal Psychology
What is conformity? Are we all sheep blindly following the crowd? Why do we do things without question?

Term 4
Special study on sleep disorders.

Prerequisites

 ENG1, HIS 1, GEO1, HUM 1,  or PSY 1 

Pathway

Psychology is a subject focussed on explaining behaviour. It is a rapidly growing area. It leads too many careers including psychologist, counselling, marketing, teaching, social work, psychiatrist, police, justice, and law. If you interested in why people do certain things, it is a good option for you.
